Integrated approaches and tools for
evaluation of the physical impacts of marine aggregate extraction and the
implications of consequent changes of hydrodynamic conditions and bottom
sediment behaviour to the marine environment. Key priorities are (in no
particular order of preference):
- to secure scientifically robust baseline information
in the East English Channel;
- to undertake studies of regeneration at sites where
dredging will cease over the next year or two;
- to collate and disseminate accurate information on
marine minerals dredging issues and practices suitable for a wide range
of stakeholders;
- to better establish the direct environmental impacts
of marine minerals dredging and their mitigation as a basis for improved
dredging conditions and EIA; and
- to develop improved predictive models.
